Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
